Introduction to this Forum and Its Use
How Do I Edit My Profile?
(1) click Home
(2) pull down the Profile menu and select Forum Profile
(3) edit
How Do I Learn about Others via Looking through their Profiles?
(1) click Members and select View the memberlist from the pull down menu
(2) click on any member to view their profile
How Do I Join a Category or Board?
(1) register as a "Regular" member (wherein you will have no access except to a few "how to" read-only files, a list of forum categories, and the ability to send the "Global Moderator" requests for membership in a category or categories
(2) define your profile
(3) peruse the description web page listed in "An Unregistered Peek Inside..."
(4) send a message to the Global Moderator requesting to join a category or categories. with a pertinent (to you) description of interest, passion, background, needs, etc.
(5) if somehow, contact is thwarted — despite y/our best efforts, and, as a last measure — send detailed email (for assistance and resolutionary requests) to the "smfadm" (SMF Administrator) email address listed at the bottom of this page.
How Do I Read or Reply to an On-forum Message?
(1) you obviously have to be logged in as a registered member
(2) click on "My Messages" and select "Send a Message" from the drop-down list
(3) send to a user (or users), for example, "smfadm"
How Do I Read or Post a Comment to a Board Thread?
(1) click Home
(2) find and click on a Board of interest
(3) click New Topic
(4) input your text &mash; adding formats, colors, fonts, links, images, email addresses
(5) set the options and add allowable attachments
(6) spell-check
(7) preview
(8) re-edit if necessary
(9) post
Note that You may delete or re-edit the post... now or later.
How Do I Create a Board Thread?
(1) click Home
(2) find a Board of interest
(3) peruse the "Subject / Started by" list
How Do I Read or Send an Off-forum Email?
(1) click Home
(2) click Members and select View the memberlist from the dropdown menu
(3) find the Username of the recipient you seek, and, if they have an "envelope" symbol in the Email column next to their Username, click on it
(4) fill in the "Email Subject" and "Message" edit boxes with your communications
(5) click the Send button
How Do I Create a New Topic?
(1) click Home
(2) click a Board
(3) click the New Topic button
How Do I Create or Recommend the Creation of a New Board or Category?
(1) click Home
(2) click Members and select View the memberlist
(3) select smfadm, type "recommendation for forum addition" as the subject
(4) detail your reasoning in the email "body"
(5) send the email
How Do I Invite Someone (into the Forum or a Board) as a Member?
(1) click Home
(2) click Members and select View the memberlist
(3) select smfadm, type "recommendation for membership" as the subject
(4) detail your reasoning in the email "body"
(5) send the email
How Do I Contact and/or Communicate with Other Members?
Here are six methods (given as sets of stepwise acts) which I used to discover, post, email, and message others, starting with a self-introduction:
[ note: the first time you enter, click "MEMBERS" and "View the memberlist" from the drop-down menu, and then, print out or save off the info of those with whom your board categories give connection access, the smfadm moderators, and the members of the default forum memberlist. ]
Methods 1-6 (the first four steps are, for all practical purposes, identical)
(1) open a browser;
Method 1 (posting from inside a visited board, and, in this example, a board within the default category)
(2) go to
http://point-of-departure.org/UTforum/;
(3) login;
(4) this puts you at
http://point-of-departure.org/UTforum/index.php;
(5) you should see an expanded view of the default category of boards, entitled "A Funny non-Thing Happened on the Way to Nowhere...";
Method 2 (posting from within your "home" area)
(6) go down to "Self-introduction Corkboard";
(7) click that title (red);
(8) click "New Topic";
(9) you are now in the BBCode editor;
(10) create a subject;
(11) type and format;
(12) fill in the three authentication questions;
(13) click "Preview" and correct and/or modify formatting;
(14) click "Post";
(15) like a flyer affixed to a wall, and unlike an email, the post goes nowhere but here, so, anyone who can "see" within the "Self-introduction Corkboard" board has the opportunity to read this post.
(5) click "MY MESSAGES" and select "Send a message" from the drop-down menu;
Method 3 (replying to a received message)
(6) this takes you to

(7) click "Messages" and "New Message";
(8) you are now in the BBCode editor;
(9) create a recipient or recipients (try your own name until you learn other members' names when you have a member's correct name it will appear below the "To:" box and click that name additional recipients require you to starting typing again in the "To:" box click the "Add BCC (?)" button for "Blind Carbon Copy" recipients, which the recipient will not see; I send to myself and make all recipients "BCC" so that everyone gets the message and everyone is not privy to anyone else's address;
(10) create a subject;
(11) type and format;
(12) fill in the three authentication questions;
(13) click "Preview" and correct and/or modify formatting;
(14) click "Post".
(5) click "MY MESSAGES" and select "Read your messages" from the drop-down menu;
Method 4 (replying to someone else's post, i.e., "posting a reply")
(6) click any existing messages to you;
(7) click the reply button and you'll enter the BBCode editor, etc.
(5) click "Show unread posts since last visit" on any page you visit;
Method 5
(6) click a post's red link;
(7) under the name of the posting member, you'll see s horizontal list of contact points "View Profile"; "(their web site)"; "Email"; "Personal Message (if open to a reply)";
(8) select one and go with the aforementioned "flow".
(5) click "MEMBERS" and "View the memberlist" from the drop-down menu;
Method 6
(6) those availing their email address will have an icon (click the letter icon to initiate your email tool);
(7) send an email as your email tool does.
[ note: this is not recommended if you and your recipient are not using OpenPGP encryption;
you are sending email "across enemy terrain" wherein, like a messenger pigeon, it can be intercepted (or worse, "shot down");

Please heed well that encryption will not protect much if you are using a handheld PDA/cell, which is precisely why the Corporate State shoves their availability, non-secure "apps", use, and sales down everyone's throats.

(6) those availing their profiles will have an icon (click their forum name to initiate a view);
(7) click "Send PM" (Personal Message); this only goes to whomever you (personally) message.
Please let me know of incorrect, hard-to-follow, or missing documentation.
The system provides much that you really do need to read, so that I do not merely restate it, nonetheless, I may, in re-interpreting its "talk to anyone" method of conveyance, be able to create an "aha!" moment for you.
Having been a Software Quality Assurance Engineer for many, many years, before Clinton and Bush were told to dismantle all but the NSA-usable and the umbilical-cord licensing, I, believe it or not, still find that sort of puzzle quite relaxing.
